UFC 207 video: One day after bizarre media scrum, Johny Hendricks misses weight again

New, comments

Former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks has failed to make weight for the 2nd time in as many fights.

On Wednesday, former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks had a bizarre media scrum, in which he appeared dehydrated (and he repeatedly noted his mouth was dry), behaving erratically, and even challenging media members to a weight-cutting contest. Today, a member of his team told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani that he only had “a pound to go” to make the welterweight limit.

Hendricks stepped onto the scale at the UFC 207 official weigh-ins in Las Vegas, Nevada, and wasn’t even close. He came in at 173.5 pounds, 2.5 pounds over the limit, and has forfeited 20% of his purse to his opponent Neil Magny, who weighed in at 171.

This has proven to be another disastrous weight cut for Hendricks, who has had a notoriously difficult time cutting down to 170. He needed two attempts to make weight for his first title fight vs. Robbie Lawler at UFC 171, then contemplated retirement after the difficult weight cut for the Lawler rematch. His October 2015 fight vs. Tyron Woodley getting canceled after he was hospitalized with kidney stones during his cut, and this year he outright missed by .25 lbs for his UFC 200 loss to Kelvin Gastelum.

Video of Hendricks’ weight miss (via MMA Fighting) can be seen at the top of the page. UFC 207: Nunes vs. Rousey airs live on pay-per-view at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT on Friday, December 30th.
