Gegard Mousasi is at a high point in his UFC career, and he wants big-name fights. Unfortunately for him, they don’t seem to be materializing. The former Strikeforce light heayweight champion has won four bouts in a row, knocking out the likes of Vitor Belfort and Uriah Hall in the process. That should earn him a top-five fighter in his eyes, so he’s becoming vocal on social media to try to get someone to sign on the dotted line.
His most recent target? Former middleweight champion Chris Weidman:
Weidman was quick to respond, saying that he’s not ready to fight yet. And throwing a pretty good zinger in at the end:
After neck surgery put Weidman out for 11 months, he returned at UFC 205 to take on Yoel Romero. Unfortunately for him, he took a nasty flying knee and was knocked out in the third round. It’s unclear if he suffered any other injuries in the bout, but I’d probably take a while to recover from that sort of knee as well.
It looks like Mousasi will have to look around for another possible opponent. Maybe he should send a tweet to Luke Rockhold next?
