In mid-October, Georges St-Pierre first announced that he was no longer connected to any other organization, making him a free agent. The UFC, for their part, responded by confirming that GSP’s Zuffa contract is still active, and that he is still remains to be under the company.

But on Wednesday, the 35-year-old inactive fighter confirmed that he is indeed a free agent. Speaking on behalf of his legal team, St-Pierre claims they have supporting evidence to back it up.

"My lawyer (James Quinn) — he's the best in this kind of situation — he told me I'm a free agent. So I am a free agent from my side of the situation,” St-Pierre said on a conference call (via MMA Fighting). “We have very strong evidence that I'm a free agent. Very confident. That's all I can say."

It was the same conference call that announced the launch of the Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association, where St-Pierre is actively involved with. During the said call, St-Pierre also revealed that for the situation involving his Zuffa contract, legal action may also be undertaken.

"I have to be very careful of how I'm going to answer this question, because it can be used in court. My lawyer James Quinn told me I'm a free agent. But you know how it is. There's two sides of the situation and sometimes it could be in court. That's all I can say."
