The 46-year-old former PRIDE and Strikeforce champion was coming off an impressive second-round knockout win over Hector Lombard before he was granted his shot at Bisping’s title. During last Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour, Henderson spoke in hindsight about what he thought he should have done in the fight (via MMA Fighting):
“I watched about a week after the fight, and yeah, it was pretty much the same after watching it than I did when I was there. I’m a little bit more pissed off again, but that’s the way it is,” Henderson said.
“Yeah, I didn’t think differently. I felt that even a couple of rounds that I gave him were a little closer than I actually thought that night, you know, that I would have gave him for sure, but after watching it, it was closer than I thought it was that night.”
Throughout Henderson’s stellar career, the one accomplishment that he was unable to complete was winning UFC gold. While he does admit that the loss still stings, Henderson says he is fine with how everything had transpired.
“That would have been ideal, to just walk away with the belt. But knowing in my mind that I left everything out there, and I did everything I could do, and for whatever reason I didn’t get the decision, I’m completely content with it. It left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, but I’m okay with it.”
