Tim Kennedy offered to fight ‘Rumble’ at UFC 206

After Daniel Cormier was forced to withdraw from his light heavyweight championship rematch against Anthony Johnson at UFC 206, the promotion desperately tried to find a replacement.

Amongst them was top middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi, who fought just one week ago against Uriah Hall at UFC Fight Night 99.

Tim Kennedy, whose opponent Rashad Evans is unable to get a license, also stepped up to the plate, as he revealed on social media earlier today.

The army ranger stepped away from MMA after his controversial loss to Yoel Romero in 2014, but announced his return to the Octagon earlier this year. Despite his two-year hiatus, Kennedy is still officially ranked as the No. 10 middleweight in the world and holds a win over current champion, Michael Bisping. The 37-year-old also beat former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler under the Strikeforce banner in 2011.

The UFC have decided to remove Johnson from the card and bump up Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis to the main event. Holloway vs. Pettis is now an interim featherweight title fight and Conor McGregor is expected to be stripped of the official 145 pound belt.

The pay-per-view, which features a co-main event between Donald Cerrone and Matt Brown, takes place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on December 10.
