Mousasi open to superfights with Anderson Silva, Nick Diaz, but wants title shot soon

With his win over Uriah Hall, Gegard Mousasi wants his next opponent to catapult him into title contention.

MMA: UFC 204-Belfort vs Mousasi Per Haljestam-USA TODAY Sports

Gegard Mousasi is a man on a mission.

The Iranian-born fighter avenged his loss to Uriah Hall at yesterday’s UFC Belfast event, where he overwhelmed his opponent with ground and pound and scored a first-round TKO.

With Mousasi now undoubtedly in the middleweight title mix, the former DREAM and Strikeforce light heavyweight champion wants to make sure his next opponent solidifies him as the next No. 1 contender.

Mousasi is even open to fights with Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz, but says Luke Rockhold is probably next.

“Anderson Silva, Nick Diaz as a super fight, that’s a great fight for me; but to get to a title shot, maybe Luke Rockhold,” Mousasi said at the post-fight conference (h/t Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie) “It depends on UFC. If they give me top-10, top-15, No. 2, I’ll take the fight as long as they give me the next title shot. I’m ready to take anyone.”

Mousasi also opened up on what it was like to get revenge against Hall, and is glad that he’s put the knockout loss behind him.

“First fight, he won fair and square,” Mousasi said. “I give credit to Uriah, he stepped up, he gave me a rematch. I have to respect that. He’s a nice guy. But this is behind me, I’m tired of that stupid highlight every time I see that stupid kick in my face. I’m tired of it so I can put it behind me. I’ll look forward to go for the title soon.”

Mousasi, a multiple-promotion MMA champion, is ranked as the No. 5 middleweight in the world and is currently riding a four-fight win streak. As well as Hall, ‘The Dreamcatcher’ has recently beat the likes of Vitor Belfort, Thales Leites and Thiago Santos.
