Thomas Almeida went into the UFC Fight Night 100 co-main event guns a blazing, and starched his opponent yet again.
Almeida faced Albert Morales, a massive underdog with very little to lose, and scored a stunning TKO early in the second round.
Morales made it close in the first five minutes, however, coming out wild but effective. Both fighters cracked each other in the opening round, making for a very exciting, back-and-forth round. Almeida had Morales badly hurt in the latter half of the round, and Morales went for takedown while in survival mode. Morales, however, nearly pulled it off, as he had a pretty tight rear naked choke sunk in. Almeida survived, and the two bantamweights ended the round throwing bombs.
Almeida landed a barrage of punches in the second round to seal the deal. The referee was forced to step in, but he could have done so even earlier than he did.
Official result: Thomas Almeida def. Albert Morales via TKO (punches) at 1:37 of Round 2.
It’s safe to say that Almeida is back on the horse at 135 pounds, en route to the title picture at the top of the division. He couldn’t have rebounded from his loss to Cody Garbrandt in better fashion.
UFC Fight Night 100 took place live from Sao Paulo, Brazil on Saturday evening.
