While the dust of UFC 205 was settling over Madison Square Garden, Karolina Kowalkiewicz sat before the media to answer questions regarding her gutsy performance versus UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Submission Radio were on hand to capture what the native of Lodz, Poland had to say.
“I feel really good,” said Kowalkiewicz to those who were gathered. “A little bit sad, and angry, because I was so close to winning this fight. But I did good and it was a good fight. I do what I love, so it was ok.”
Though Jedrzejczyk controlled long periods of the fight, and ran out a clear winner on the judges’ scorecards, Kowalkiewicz almost snatched victory in one of the most dynamic moments of the contest.
In the fourth round Kowalkiewicz cracked Jedrzejczyk with a solid punch that sent the champion reeling. Kowalkiewicz pounced with more strikes but was unable to put Jedrzejczyk away.
After the fight Jedrzejczyk brushed off that incident, insisting she was not ‘hurt’ in that moment. Regardless what her opponent said, Kowalkiewicz believes she had the still undefeated champion in serious danger.
“I was so close. I know it. I know it,” mourned Kowalkiewicz.
When asked what was next for her; Kowalkiewicz revealed that she needed some days to rest. The defeated challenger did not demand an immediate rematch, but made it clear she would like one at some point, preferably in Poland. If that day does come, Kowalkiewicz feels confident about how it would end.
“I beat her next time,” said Kowalkiewicz, before wishing media members a ‘good night.’
