Michael Bisping could retire if he loses UFC middleweight title

Although Bisping is the UFC middleweight champion, ‘The Count’ is thinking about retirement.

Bisping has been competing in the UFC for ten years and has fought 37 times in his career. The Brit shocked the world when he dethroned the highly touted Luke Rockhold -- who was hyped as the next great champion -- at UFC 199.

Bisping went on to defend the title against an old rival, Dan Henderson, in his backyard of Manchester, England earlier this year but accumulated some serious damage in the fight. The Lancastrian was rocked badly in the first and second rounds but managed to weather the storm and take home a unanimous decision.

Bisping turns 38 in February, next year and says he may retire if he loses the 185 pound belt.

“Never say never, you can’t fight forever,” Bisping told MMA Junkie. “I’ve been doing this for a long, long time. I’ll probably keep going until I lose the belt then just say (expletive) it. Cheers.”

The MMA veteran recently came under fire for rejecting a fight with ‘Jacare’ Souza at UFC 206 after originally claiming he was available to fight Nick Diaz or Georges St-Pierre.

Bisping now believes he’ll fight Chris Weidman, who takes on Yoel Romero at this Saturday’s UFC 205 event, in January next year.

“Sometime in January would be nice,” Bisping said.

““(I would like to fight) Weidman, because he’s a tit. No, Weidman’s all right. I’ve got nothing against Weidman. I’ve berated his accomplishments as a champion. That’s what started this beef a while ago. He’s all right. I like him and his whole team – they’re all really, really cool guys. We’re both competitors. He wants what I’ve got. There’s a bit of history there. I think people will be interested in that fight, as well.”

Bisping is one of the most accomplished fighters in the sport and a potential a UFC Hall of Famer. The ex-postman is currently ranked as the No. 10 pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
