On the eve of UFC 205, Conor McGregor and Tyron Woodley were found trading words with each other — not their respective opponents — on social media.
The online exchange followed an intense confrontation at the official weigh-ins Friday morning, in which Woodley initially walked by the Irishman after weighing in and asked, “What’s up?” McGregor responded with a stare, and Woodley appeared to repeat the question, finally getting a response of “What’s up?” from the featherweight champ.
Woodley later took to Twitter to explain exactly what happened.
@arielhelwani I said what's up then he tried to flex. Quickly he realized it was a NO FLEX ZONE Pretty much made him say what's up! JS

@arielhelwani Some of us are really about that that life! The quiet ones are the ones really from the slums. Don't make me go back.

The welterweight titleholder’s pair of tweets prompted a response from McGregor.
@TWooodley @arielhelwani Twitter bitch you'll do nothing
— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) November 11, 2016
And the beef continued.
@TheNotoriousMMA Dude Im not them guys u deal w Homie! I'll forget the fight & go Ferguson! Focus on Eddie & never call me a Bitch again.

Woodley later talked to MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani about what happened. “The Chosen One” doesn’t think McGregor wants to fight him, but instead just wanted to create a stir ahead of UFC 205, because Woodley has a major size advantage over “The Notorious.”
“I don’t think he was sizing it up,” Woodley said. “I thought he thought it was an opportunity to get a little internet buzz. He has this big charade and this big mystique about him, so he can’t just stop there — he gotta out-do the next thing every time.
“I think that was more for publicity, that he said that [he fought at my weight]. The opponent he picked didn’t have a great run at 170 because he was out-sized.”
UFC 205 takes place live from Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday, Nov. 12. In the main event, McGregor looks to make history in a lightweight title fight against Eddie Alvarez. Woodley is set to defend his 170-pound belt in the co-feature against Stephen Thompson.
