On Wednesday, a “MAJOR announcement” was teased on the official Twitter account of The Herd with Colin Cowherd. UFC president Dana White joined Cowherd on the FS1 program to make the big announcement at 2:30 PM ET, and lo and behold, the answer is....

(drumroll please)

Ronda Rousey is back.

As we near 1 full year since Rousey lost her UFC women’s bantamweight title to Holly Holm, Ronda will get an immediate title shot against Amanda Nunes in the UFC 207 main event. That card will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Friday, December 30th. Ariel Helwani had originally reported that the fight was close to being finalized, and obviously Dana made it official today.

Rousey (12-1) was head kick KO’d by Holm in the UFC 193 main event in November, which marked the first defeat of her MMA career. She’d previously defended her UFC title six times, with her last 4 wins ending in a combined 2 minutes and 10 seconds, with 3 ending by KO or TKO, as opposed to her usual armbar finish.

Nunes (13-4) has won 4 straight, with her only UFC setback coming against Cat Zingano, and she dominated Miesha Tate in the UFC 200 main event to become the new women’s bantamweight champion. Seven of the Brazilian’s last eight wins have come in the opening round.

So after much speculation over whether or not Rousey would even compete in MMA again, you have you answer. December 30th, UFC 207, Amanda Nunes vs. Ronda Rousey. Neither Holm nor Tate was able to manage a successful first title defense, we’ll soon find out if Nunes can break that streak by beating the woman who reigned supreme over the women’s bantamweight division for years.
