Travis Browne finished Matt Mitrione with strikes from full mount with under a minute left in round 3 at UFC Fight Night 81 in Boston, but it didn't come without controversy. Browne clearly poked Mitrione in the eye in the 1st and 2nd round, and the referee didn't take a point away. Mitrione's right eye clearly bothered him throughout the right, and Browne was targeting it in his strike selection. Browne blasted the eye with a big punch in the 3rd round, and then blasted Mitrione with a series of strikes from full mount before the referee came in and stopped the fight.
Browne repeatedly stuck his fingers out when throwing strikes and Mitrione reacted quite negatively to getting hit in the last two rounds. The end result? Mitrione's right eye looks like it's growing a 2nd head (screenshot via BE's Anton Tabuena)
It's certainly not the outcome Mitrione wanted as he enters free agency. Browne ended up getting a much-needed win while simultaneously not winning over any fans after his tactics tonight.
