Report: Alvarez fighting Pettis on January 17th, possibly in Boston

It sounds like two of the world's best lightweights have a fight in the works with reports surfacing of a booking between Eddie Alvarez and Anthony Pettis.

Former champions will apparently come together for a big fight in January. One-time UFC champ Anthony Pettis looks set to return from his title defeat at the hands of Rafael dos Anjos back in March at UFC 185. His opponent for his return, according to Combate, will be former Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez, fresh off a huge win over Gilbert Melendez in Mexico at UFC 188.

While the fight makes sense for both men and would be a great booking, it's not 100% official yet. In fact, responding to reports, Eddie Alvarez didn't seem to know anything about it, but didn't deny it either:

Combate pegs the fight for January 17th, saying that it could possibly take place in Boston. No other potential match-ups have been announced for the card, and in fact, the UFC hasn't even made it official that they'll be holding a card on the date. So, stay tuned as we'll be sure to keep you updated as more information becomes available.
