There has been a lot of talk about Demetrious Johnson's lack of appeal to UFC fans in the wake of his dominant UFC 191 title defense over John Dodson. While he is undoubtedly one of the best fighters in the promotion, the gate for the show was the lowest in Las Vegas since 2004 and the PPV numbers likely won't blow anyone away either. So it shouldn't come as much of as surprise that Johnson didn't make the most money in salary on the UFC 191 card despite being a champion.
In fact, he wasn't even in the top three earners.
Co-main event heavyweights Andrei Arlovski and Frank Mir, along with former light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Johnson, all made more in reported salary than the champ. Here's how it all broke down (info via the Nevada State Athletic Commission):
Demetrious Johnson ($133,000 + $58,000 = $191,000)
John Dodson ($60,000)
Andrei Arlovski ($225,000)
Frank Mir ($200,000)
Anthony Johnson ($115,000 + $115,000 = $230,000)
Jimi Manuwa ($24,000)
Corey Anderson ($15,000 + $15,000 = $30,000)
Jan Blachowicz ($34,000)
Paige VanZant ($12,000 + $12,000 = $24,000)
Alex Chambers ($12,000)
Ross Pearson ($45,000 + $45,000 = $90,000)
Paul Felder ($18,000)
John Lineker ($24,000 + $24,000 = $48,000)
Francisco Rivera ($23,000)
Raquel Pennington ($10,000 + $10,000 = $20,000)
Jessica Andrade ($20,000)
Tiago Trator ($10,000 + $10,000 = $20,000)
Clay Collard ($10,000)
Joe Riggs ($16,000 + $16,000 = $32,000)
Ronald Stallings ($12,000)
Joaquim Silva ($10,000 + $10,000 = $20,000)
Nazareno Malegarie ($10,000)
