UFC 191 opened with two bouts on the promotion's Fight Pass streaming service. Veteran Joe Riggs took on Ron Stallings and a pair of Ultimate Fighter veterans made their Octagon debut.
The Riggs-Stallings bout was a sloppy if entertaining affair that came to a weird and unfortunate end. Stallings hurt Riggs' right eye badly early in the bout with either a poke or a stiff jab. In the second, Riggs dropped Stallings with a combo of punches and followed him down to lay on some hurtful elbows. Then Stallings caught Riggs with an upkick while Riggs had a knee on the ground. That violated the kicking a downed opponent rule and because Riggs told the ref he couldn't continue due to his eye, it was ruled a disqualification.
Silva came out a little bit slow at the beginning but eventually his power and smoother striking caught up with a game Malegarie. Despite a bad habit of eating left hook counters, Silva way outstruck his opponent and two of the three judges gave him all three rounds.
