Earlier this year, the UFC signed heavyweight wrestling prospect Bilyal Makhov, even though he had never fought in professional MMA. Before setting his sights on full-time participation in MMA, Bilyal has his sights set on the FILA World Wrestling Championships, where he will compete in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling.
Makhov, an Olympic bronze medalist and three-time freestyle world championship wrestler, plans to resume his preparation for MMA at K-Dojo Warriro Tribe once he finishes at the Worlds. It is believed that the 6'5" 27-year-old from the North Caucasus would become one of the greatest threats to the current crop of UFC heavyweights given his decorated background.
"I feel great and am getting better day by day," Bilyal told BloodyElbow while training in the Kabardino Balkar Mountains in Tyrnyauz. "I am in excellent shape to do this. We are going to make history."
The World Wrestling Championships, which takes place in Las Vegas this year, is scheduled to begin on September 7.
