One step closer to Rousey: Cyborg scheduled to fight at 140 pounds

In November, Cristiane Justino will make her first step towards the 135-pound limit, where a fight against UFC champion Ronda Rousey awaits her.

Cristiane Justino is one step closer to a potential mega fight with UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.

The 145-pound wrecking machine will compete in a catchweight bout at the next Invicta FC event in November. The promotion's president Shannon Knapp announced the news at Invicta FC 14's post-fight press conference on Friday.

For years, a superfight between Rousey and "Cris Cyborg" has been in talks. Both are undoubtedly the two best female fighters on the planet. Unfortunately, however, they dominated in different weight classes. While Rousey is the UFC's 135-pound champion, Cyborg holds the 145-pound belt over at Invicta. Offseason, she even walks around at over 170 pounds. The UFC's call is: Only if she can make the drop to 135 will she get the fight against Rousey. Cyborg has stated multiple times that it is impossible for her to drop that amount of weight. Rousey countered if she can make 145 on steroids, she should be able to make 135 without them.

Justino tested positive for stanozolol, an anabolic steroid shortly following her 16-second TKO win against Hiroko Yamanaka.

The catchweight bout will be her first step down to bantamweight. A fight at 135 at Invicta is likely to follow, before she can make the transition to the UFC. An opponent, date or venue for the bout is yet to be named.
