Amanda Nunes entered her UFC Fight Night 73 bout in Nashville as an underdog to Olympic medalist Sara McMann. Just a few minutes later, she was celebrating a victory. The ATT fighter looked dominant in a win over a very tough opponent, and even conducted her post-fight interview in English. In addition to that, the opening UFN 73 flyweight bout was an exciting affair as well. Here's how it went down.
Amanda Nunes defeated Sara McMann by submission (rear naked choke), 2:53 of round 1
Nunes came out aggressive, seemingly not worried about McMann's vaunted wrestling game. After landing a few strikes, she threw a spinning kick that let McMann tie her up, but not for long. After some more aggression, she cracked McMann with a straight right that hurt her, and she pounced. With McMann on the floor, Nunes took her back, flattened her out, and punched her in the head until the ref stooped the fight.
This one took place almost exclusively on the floor (only five significant strikes were landed on the feet for both guys combined), and mostly featured Borg working his game from top position. He had Herrera in trouble a couple of times, but was mostly putting on a guard passing clinic for the first two rounds. Herrera busted Borg open with an elbow from the bottom early in the third, which had blood literally leaking out of Borg's head. The doc said he was good to go though, and they grappled for the rest of the round with Borg in charge. It was a very, very good fight.
