On Sunday evening, the inaugural Five grappling super league event went down in California and featured a stacked card. They may have ushered in a future star of submission grappling in recent black belt awardee Karen Atunes who bested much more experienced opponents before losing to Mackenzie Dern in the tournament finals. Elsewhere, the male elimination tournament threw up a surprise winner as Timothy Spriggs managed to beat CTA's Yuri Simoes in the final to take home $10,000.
While the two stacked tournaments were the main draws for the pay-per-view audiences, two superfights also featured on the card. Garry Tonon avenged his loss against Joao Miyao in a close match and Keenan Cornelius dominated Otavio Sousa en-route to a 4x0.
