Claudia Gadelha suffered an injury to her finger, and reports surfaced with the Brazilian stating that she could be out for three months. With the Rousey vs Holm match up moved from UFC 195 to UFC 193, officials considered moving Joanna's title defense as well to have her co-headline with her fellow Women's MMA star.
With Gadelha injured, UFC seriously considered giving Valerie Letourneau the title shot instead. But apparently she wouldn't be ready in time for 193 either and now Dana White will "have to rethink all of this".
Clearly not wanting to be skipped over her promised title fight, Gadelha took to twitter to say that she will be able to compete.
Guys, I'm not injured. I'm taking care of my finger that I hurt in my fight with Aguilar. That's it. I will be ready when Joanna is ready.

With her somewhat conflicting statements on the nature of the injury, Gadelha decided to explain further on social media:
@Franchize__ so was she. She hurt her finger and said she was gonna be ready in December or January. I said I'm on for this months too.

@Franchize__ People thought I had another injury. I only explained what happened. What else?

@KillaBuddah @marc_raimondi I can't punch but I can train other things and get in shape.

UFC 193 happens on November, and it seems neither Gadelha nor Letourneau will be ready by then. Gadelha is posturing to still get a possible title fight on UFC 195 this January, and understandably so, but it's unfortunate it won't happen as the planned co-feature to Rousey.
Having the strawweight title fight on the same card as Rousey could get this new weight class some much needed exposure from the massive and completely different fanbase that Ronda draws in. While Joanna and a handful of other strawweights have the potential to be huge stars, it's regrettable that her two title defenses (one on Fight Pass) are on cards targeted for the already serious MMA enthusiast.
