ADCC 2015 results, Day 1 - UFC fighter makes semi-finals

It was an up-and-down day for MMA fighters at the ADCCs, but one UFC lightweight has made it through to the semi-finals in his division.

Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

Today's Day 1 at the ADCCs was good to a current UFC lightweight and a former UFC light heavyweight, but not as nice to a former champion at 155 lbs. Gilbert Burns, the 29-year-old former BJJ world champ who is 10-0 in MMA and 3-0 in the UFC, submitted his first-round opponent Lachlin Giles in the ~77kg division and defeated Abdukadirov Magomed in the quarters. He will take on one-time Bellator fighter Davi Ramos in the semis tomorrow.

However, things didn't go as smoothly for former UFC lightweight champ Ben Henderson. The aforementioned Magomed submitted Bendo in the first round of the ~77kg division bracket. Also, currently suspended UFC welterweight Hector Lombard managed to make it to the quarter-finals of the ~99kg division but lost to the great Xande Ribeiro. Tom DeBlass was eliminated in the first round of that division as well.

Fomer UFC lightweight Vinny Magalhaes advanced to the semi-finals of the +99kg division, submitting both of his opponents today. Fellow former UFC competitor Dean Lister was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the same division.

In the first superfight of the ADCCs, ATT's Ricardo Liborio managed to defeat Mario Sperry by referee decision after multiple overtimes.
