We're just under a month away from Bellator MMA's Dynamite show, which features (among other things) a light heavyweight four-man, one-night tournament to determine who will face the winner of Liam McGeary versus Tito Ortiz. The field consists of Muhammad Lawal, Linton Vassell, Emanuel Newton, and new signing Phil Davis. On Friday night's Bellator 141 broadcast, the pairings for September 19th were announced. King Mo will face Vassell, while former champion Newton will be Davis' first opponent inside the Bellator MMA cage. The alternate bout, which was announced earlier in the week, will be between Francis Carmont and Philippe Lins.
So the possibility exists for King Mo vs. Newton 3 should Newton pull off the upset in the semifinal. The rules for this tournament state that the opening tournament bouts will be two five-minute rounds, with the final being the standard three five-minute rounds. Presumably a "sudden victory" round will be used in case one of the semis ends in a draw.
Here's how the card is shaping up for next month's show in San Jose, CA. The night's main card airs live on Spike TV:
Bellator Light Heavyweight Title Fight: Tito Ortiz (18-11) vs. Liam McGeary (10-0)
Glory Vacant Light Heavyweight Title Fight: Saulo Cavalari (31-2) vs. Zack Mwekassa (13-2)
