Going into UFC 190, many pundits believed that Ronda Rousey taking on a mostly unknown fighter in Brazil would mean that the PPV buys weren't going through the roof. Those pundits (including myself) turned out to be very, very wrong. It now appears that Ronda Rousey is the top PPV draw in the UFC.
Dave Meltzer of MMA Fighting is reporting that UFC 190: Rousey vs. Correia is likely to do over 900,000 buys. That's the best PPV number for the promotion since UFC 168 in December 2013. That card featured a couple of rematches - Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman, and Rousey vs. Miesha Tate.
The UFC 190 card had a lot going against it as well, besides the weak B side to the headliner (Bethe Correia) and the show taking place outside of North America. The undercard didn't have any major draws on it, and it was three weeks after a heavily-hyped UFC 189 card. Nonetheless, Rousey topped that 189 card in terms of buys (it did around 800,000) and it appears that it doesn't matter who she is fighting - the show will sell.
Rousey competes next at UFC 195 in January against undefeated Holly Holm.
