All eyes at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada were on top 10 featherweights Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira. At stake was a move towards a coveted title shot, and the expectation was a thrilling contest betwen two of the most talented and exciting fighters in the division.
It didn't take long for both men to take the center of the Octagon and display their diverse striking arsenal. Holloway wasted no time going to the body of Oliveira. Charles went for a sloppy takedown and then Holloway stuffed it easily. He got back up to his feet after going to his back and Oliveira was noticeably holding his shoulder/neck area. The fight was called off when Oliveira just about surrendered himself. A stretcher was called in immediately after the fight ended and it is not yet known what the injury was.
Official result: Max Holloway (14-3) def. Charles Oliveira (20-5, 1 NC) via TKO (injury) at 1:39 of round 1
A truly unfortunate ending to what was shaping up to be a highly entertaining fight. Holloway officially gets his 7th straight win.
