UFC Saskatoon results: Neil Magny beats Erick Silva by split decision

Check out the result of the UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. Oliveira co-main event between welterweights Neil Magny and Erick Silva.

The UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. Oliveira co-main event was supposed to be Erick Silva against Rick Story, but when Story pulled out, Neil Magny stepped in on short notice despite coming off a submission loss to Demian Maia on August 1st. Despite the change of opponent, it was still expected to be an entertaining fight.

Silva effectively took himself down with a failed spinning back elbow, but Magny couldn't do anything of significance while on top. Erick got back to his feet and tripped Magny down and advanced to side control. Magny got out of that and the rest of the round outwrestled and outgrappled the Brazilian with ease. He peppered Silva's face up with ground-and-pound from back mount to win round 1.

Surprisingly, Silva was content to load up on heavy single strikes and looked sluggish in general. He did get a takedown only for Magny to scramble back to his feet. Magny landed quality shots and was able to time Silva from range. Not too much happened in the 3rd but Magny's stinging jab no doubt proved problematic for Silva, who looked sluggish and completely out of his depth.

Official result: Neil Magny (16-5) def. Erick Silva (18-6, 1 NC) via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 30-27)

Pretty much no argument for 29-28 Silva but the right guy won. Magny gets a huge win on short notice while Silva still hasn't won 3 in a row in the UFC.
