January 2nd, 2016 looks to be a banner day for women's MMA. News broke early this morning that Ronda Rousey would be defending her UFC women's bantamweight title at UFC 195, but the opponent will be Holly Holm instead of Miesha Tate. That wasn't all though - UFC president Dana White also said that women's strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will be defending her title, likely against Claudia Gadelha, in the co-main event of the card.
The news comes via the LA Times.
The reason that Gadelha (13-1, 2-1 UFC) is still a maybe at this point is due to an injury she is currently recovering from. She is expected to be ready for January, but it won't be confirmed for a little while yet.
Jedrzejczyk (10-0, 4-0 UFC) has faced Gadelha once before, back at UFC on Fox 13 last December. The bout was very close, with Jedrzejczyk taking home a split decision win. She went on to win the title in her next bout and has defended it once since then, destroying Jessica Penne in June.
No other bouts have been announced for the card as of yet, but White did say that he would like Tate to face Amanda Nunes the same night.
