Uriah Hall, fresh off of his 1st round TKO over short-notice replacement Oluwale Bamgbose at UFC Fight Night in Nashville, will himself play the role of short-notice opponent this September. The UFC announced on Wednesday that Hall has stepped in for the injured Roan Carneiro and will take on top 10 middleweight Gegard Mousasi in the UFC Fight Night: Barnett vs. Nelson co-main event in Japan.
Hall (11-5) bounced back from his split decision defeat to Rafael Natal with the previously mentioned stoppage over Bamgbose. The TUF 17 runner-up was actually scheduled to fight Joe Riggs before Bamgbose came in as a late substitute. Prior to the Natal loss, Hall had won 3 straight over Chris Leben, Thiago Santos, and Ron Stallings (another late replacement).
Mousasi (37-5-2) has won his last two bouts, stopping Dan Henderson in just 70 seconds before easily getting past Costas Philippou by unanimous decision. The former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion is ranked 6th in the UFC's middleweight division. His two UFC losses have come against Lyoto Machida and Ronaldo Souza.
UFC Fight Night will originate from Saitama, Japan on Sunday, September 27th, but air Saturday night on the 26th for North American viewers. The night's main card airs live on Fox Sports 1, with heavyweights Roy Nelson and Josh Barnett competing in the five-round main event.
