Josh Thomson's Bellator debut has been officially announced. The former Strikeforce champion and UFC veteran will first step in to the Bellator cage at Bellator MMA: Dynamite, Saturday, September 19 live on Spike.
The 36 year old Thomson (20-8) is a 12 year veteran of the sport, and is one of the pioneers of the Lightweight division in the United States. He has competed in Pride and the UFC, but is probably best known for his Strikeforce run. There, he went 10-3, including a run as Lightweight champion, and an epic trilogy against Gilbert Melendez. He returned to the UFC in 2013 and went 1-3 before being released earlier this year. Thomson's career has been very start and stop for a number of years now, as injuries have taken their toll on the veteran.
Thomson's opponent at Dynamite will be Mike Bronzoulis, an 18-8 fighter who comes in on a three fight win streak in Legacy. He is is 0-1 in Bellator, losing to Joe Riggs in the finals of the Fight Master series.
Thomson vs. Bronzoulis rounds out the main card for Dynamite, which includes 9 fights total - 5 MMA fights from Bellator, and 3 kickboxing fights from Glory. The full fight card is below.
