Floyd Mayweather: I wish Ronda Rousey nothing but the best

In a recent media scrum, Floyd Mayweather sent his well wishes to Ronda Rousey, but still maintains he didn't know who she was a year ago.

Lately, Ronda Rousey's name has been getting major lip service from just about everyone, and not only within our relatively small MMA bubble. At the top of the list this week, is boxing superstar, Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather, who once claimed he had no idea who Rousey was, and still maintains that at the time he was asked, he really didn't know her (or that she was female), is singing a different tune, now.

These days, he definitely knows who she is, especially since she beat him out of an ESPY award for fighter of the year, and then went on to give him a good dressing down regarding his long history of domestic violence issues in her post-award interview. Mayweather, who appears to be on his very best behavior ahead of his September retirement fight, had nothing but well wishes for the UFC women's bantamweight champ.

In a recent media scrum, "Money" discussed his fight strategy, post-retirement plans, his own boxing promotion, and wished Ronda "nothing but the best."

Mayweather: I'm still in the sport of boxing. I've got a huge stable of fighters and I've got a list of young fighters that's on the rise. You know, I'm promoting and my dad is training the fighters and we're working hand-in-hand. That's what it's about, working together.

Reporter: What will this mean for fans if you're no longer a part of boxing?

Mayweather: I'm still a part of boxing. It's my last fight, you know? My health is more important at this particular time. I'm getting older. I'm still wise, still witty, but boxing is a young man's sport.

Reporter: What's your strategy heading into this fight?

Mayweather: No strategy. My strategy is to go out there and be first, always dictate and control the pace.

Before, I didn't know who she was, you know? I wish her nothing but the best. Good luck with everything. -Floyd Mayweather discussing Ronda Rousey

Mayweather: Going back and forth from my house in Miami, Vegas, LA, just enjoy life and continue to build Mayweather promotions and go to the next level.

Reporter: So, who's the next great fighter after you?

Mayweather: There's a lot of young, strong fighters out there. You got Errol Spence. He's a tough, you know, um, southpaw from Texas, from Dallas. He's a good fighter.

We've got another little, um...Gervonta Davis. Tank, another little fighter we just signed. J'Leon Love, you know, he had a small, minor setback, but he's gonna be on a major comeback; he'll be back real soon.

Mayweather: Like I said before, I don't really know too much about Ronda Rousey. Even before, I think they got upset because, I thought Ronda know, I didn't know who that was. So, whoever, whoever...

Reporter: She is

Mayweather: She is...because before, I didn't know who she was, you know? I wish her nothing but the best. Good luck with everything.
