UFC 190 results: Cannetti gets first UFC win, Miranda TKOs Hester

Check out the results of the opening two preliminary card bouts from UFC 190: Rousey vs. Correia in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

UFC 190 started off with a pair of Fight Pass preliminary card bouts, with a heavy emphasis on various alums from The Ultimate Fighter. Three of the four competitors on the FP prelims were coming off of stoppage defeats. Here is how they fared this evening in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil:

Guido Cannetti (7-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) def. Hugo Viana (8-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) via unanimous decision (29-28 x3) - Bantamweights

Cannetti turned a failed spinning attack into a brief toe-hold attempt, but Viana got out of it and then took the Argentine's back. Cannetti got back to his feet and out of a bad spot. Not much else happened in the 1st round, but Cannetti stunned Viana with a head kick and then took him down straight into side control. The chance to finish the fight went away as a result and Viana controlled the rest of the round with his grappling and ground-and-pound. Canetti secured victory with good strikes and success off of some scrambles, but it was by no means a fight worth revisiting.

Vitor Miranda (10-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) def. Clint Hester (11-4 MMA, 4-1 UFC) via TKO (strikes) at 2:38 of round 2 - Middleweights

In a rather weird fight, Hester was very content to mix his strikes with labored takedown attempts on a borderline robotic basis. Midway through the first, Miranda countered a shot by getting on top of Hester and delivering some heavy ground-and-pound. Hester kept his gameplan in the 2nd round but paid the price dearly when he ate a knee on the way towards dropping down for another takedown. Miranda reversed him and trapped him on the bottom, where the Brazilian unleashed a series of brutal strikes while the helpless Hester could do nothing about it but wait for Herb Dean to stop the fight.
