Several months ago, the UFC announced that a heavyweight clash between Roy Nelson and Josh Barnett would serve in the headlining role for the promotion's latest venture into Japan. Now, the UFC has added a slew of fights to bolster their return to the Land of the Rising Sun.
A middleweight contest between Gegard Mousasi and Roan Carneiro has been made official as the co-main event of the evening. The Dutch striker is coming off a win against Costas Philippou in Manila and he will now come up against the 15th ranked middleweight "Jucao" Carneiro. Following his trifecta of victories at the BattleGround MMA one-night tournament, where he defeated Randall Wallace, Trey Houston and Brock Larson in the span of a few short hours, Carneiro beat Mark Munoz in his first fight in the Octagon.
Also featured on the card will be a welterweight bout between Jingliang Li and Kiichi Kunimoto and a bantamweight bout between Norifumi Yamamoto and Matt Hobar. Kyoji Horiguchi is also scheduled to compete on the card but it yet to have his opponent announced.
The finals of the ‘Road to UFC: Japan' reality show will also take place on the card.
UFC Fight Night Japan takes place September 27 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
