UFC 190: Rousey to dedicate her performance to late 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper

On Saturday night, UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey plans to dedicate her main event fight with Bethe Correia to the pro wrestling legend who is the inspiration for her 'Rowdy' nickname.

Ronda Rousey's fight with Bethe Correia has been fueled primarily by the personal barbs these two have traded over the past several weeks. Correia has been lobbing the majority of the hate grenades towards the unbeaten UFC, and Rousey has publicly stated she plans to "teach Correia a lesson." Not only will Rousey seek to settle a personal grudge with the Brazilian challenger at UFC 190, but she plans to do so in honor of the WWE great whose nickname she was granted permission to use for herself. In an Instagram post, Rousey put in a tribute for the late "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, and made it clear she was going to dedicate her performance to him on Saturday night:

Thank you for the name.... And so much more.... Will do it justice and do you proud tomorrow.... This one's for you Roddy....

Piper died of cardiac arrest at his home in California at the age of 61. Rousey, a longtime fan of Piper and a major pro wrestling mark who appeared in this year's WrestleMania, asked Piper if she could use his "Rowdy" moniker prior to her amateur MMA debut. Piper approved and Rousey has stuck with the nickname ever since.
