The fallout over the firing of "Stitch" Duran by the UFC has been seemingly non-stop since Duran confirmed the news himself on Tuesday night. Duran was given the heave-ho over comments critical of the UFC's sponsorship deal with Reebok, which meant the end of sponsorships for cutmen such as himself, and unlike the fighters, they will receive no compensation for wearing the Reebok gear.
This sparked intense outrage towards both the UFC and Reebok on social media. On Twitter, the hashtag #FuckReebok briefly trended, and you can view the responses for yourself.
Interview: 'Stitch' speaks to BE about his firing
Following the news that "Stitch" Duran would no longer serve as cutman for UFC events, John S. Nash had a chance to talk to Duran and ask him about the comments.
On Wednesday, Reebok's official Twitter account released this statement to specifically address UFC fans on the matter. From the looks of things, they're making it clear that they had nothing to do with Duran's firing and that this was a decision made entirely by the UFC:
UFC fans: We have no input on decisions of UFC employment or fighter compensation. Our focus is providing the best gear for fighters & fans.— Reebok (@Reebok) July 22, 2015
This, unsurprisingly, wasn't a satisfying enough response in the eyes of UFC fans. Take a look at some of the responses below:
This is not really the start the UFC and Reebok had envisioned just a few months into their 6 year/$70 million deal, is it?
