CM Punk: My first UFC fight already sells itself

Former pro wrestler CM Punk isn't sure when he'll step into the octagon yet, but he believes that his first fight essentially sells itself.

It's old hat to a lot of UFC fans by now - yes, the promotion has signed former WWE wrestler CM Punk. No, he doesn't have any pro fights. No, we don't know exactly when he's going to debut. No matter how you feel about Phil Brooks being in the UFC though, it's undeniable that there's a certain amount of curiosity about how he'll do in the cage when the time comes. And as a person with a long resume in the (sports) entertainment business, Punk knows this.

While training and getting better at Roufusport in preparation for his first bout (boss/promoter Dana White says he looks phenomenal, by the way), Punk has done a few media spots and Q&A's as well. He was in attendance at UFC 189 earlier in the month and discussed how he might promote his first bout when the time comes. Basically, he said that he won't need to, because the fight sells itself (via MMA Junkie):

"I feel my fight already sells itself. There’s a curiosity factor, but I don’t think I’ll be that guy that manufactures some kind of phony beef to try to sell a fight."

With that being said, it will depend on his opponent as to whether he does any talking or not:

"If I fight somebody I generally dislike, then it’s on."

With the UFC in his hometown of Chicago this weekend for UFC on Fox 16: Dillashaw vs. Barao 2, Punk will be on hand to do a fan Q&A before the weigh-ins on Friday. His first bout is expected to come in early 2016 at this point, though he has talked about maybe fighting in December of this year.
