UFC Fight Night: Mir vs. Duffee live results and play-by-play for main card

Bloody Elbow will provide live updates and analysis for the UFC Fight Night 71 main card. In the main event, Frank Mir takes on Todd Duffee in a heavyweight battle.

UFC Fight Night 71: Mir vs. Duffee is set to go down in San Diego tonight, and is in the middle of a stretch where there are four UFC events in eight days. This one has flown under the radar to a degree, but features a pretty good card overall. The main event will see former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir attempting to stay relevant in the division when he takes on hard-hitting Todd Duffee.

The co-main event will see former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson taking on TUF winner Tony Ferguson. In addition to that, a battle of women's bantamweight contenders will go down when Holly Holm faces off against Marion Reneau.

We'll cover all the main card action in this post. This portion of the card kicks off at 10 pm ET/7pm PT and will air on Fox Sports 1.

Matt Dwyer vs. Alan Jouban

Round 1 - Jouban with a body kick and he swarmed in. Dwyer weathered it well though. A right caught Jouban as he came in. He briefly went down but ended up in top position. After one knee to the butt, Dwyer kicked him away and returned to the feet. They clinched up for a while. Jouban spins but doesn't throw anything. High body kick from Jouban. A right hand hurt Dwyer. Jouban threw a knee with Dwyer while he was on the ground. He tried to claim he hit the shoulder, but it was right to the head. The ref takes a point. Dwyer has a small cut under his eye. Front kick from Dwyer, Jouban responds with two big shots. 9-9.

Round 2 - Jouban lands two punches, Dwyer responded with a left hook. Hard straight right from Jouban. Big body kick from Jouban. And another. He went high but Dwyer saw it coming. Nice counter from Jouban. Dwyer had a takedown attempt stuffed. Jouban chopping at the legs. Hard elbow by Jouban against the cage. Head kick from Jouban dropped Dwyer. Dwyer immediately went for an armbar and got back up. A stiff right sends Jouban back but he responds with a right! They're brawling now! Jouban to the body, beating him up against the cage. Dwyer firing back. Holy crap, a cartwheel kick from Jouban hurt Dwyer at the bell! That was crazy! 10-9 Jouban.

Round 3 - Jouban walking Dywer down. He landed a couple of shots. It looked like Dwyer poked him in the eye, and Jouban backed off. He caught Dwyer with a big shot coming in though. Body kick from Jouban. The pace has slowed. Dwyer with a kead kick and a right. Jouban waded in with some punches and got a takedown. Dwyer looked for a kimura. Jouban opened up with a bevy of strikes as they got up, and went for the cartwheel kick again. Dwyer blocked it and landed some punches on the ground. Really good fight. 10-9 and 29-27 Jouban overall.

Alan Jouban defeated Matt Dwyer by unanimous decision (29-27, 29-27, 29-27)

Kevin Lee vs. James Moontasri

Round 1 - Two inside leg kicks to start for Moontasri. Lee with a winging right. Moontasri with his own. Both had head kicks blocked. Hard straight right for Lee. Both guys got poked in the eye at the same time. Don't think I've ever seen that before. Lee with a takedown upon the restart, and took the back. Body triangle. Lee is up high, but rolls over on his back and traps an arm. He deftly slid his arm under the chin and sunk the choke, forcing Moontasri to submit. Very, very nice.

Manny Gamburyan vs. Scott Jorgensen

Round 1 - Gamburyan with awkward shot right away, which was easily swatted away. Jorgensen went for a double and ended up right in a guillotine. Jorgensen spazzed out and finally escaped. Gamburyan worked from top position. Jorgensen got back up, was dragged back down, and popped back up again. Jorgensen with a ball shot and they take a break. Herb Dean insists that they start in the same position. Gambryan scooped him up and slammed him to the mat. Manny briefly had a crucifix but Jorgensen escaped. He started beating Manny up but caught a huge counter that dropped him. Gamburyan looked for the finish but Scotty scrambled away. He got suplexed for his troubles, but they quickly returned to the feet. Another nice counter by Gamburyan. 10-9 Gamburyan.

Round 2 - Jorgensen with a nice combo. Gamburyan with the ball shot right now. Quick restart. Jorgensen with a leg kick. Gamburyan with a right hook and he's in on a single leg. Jorgensen escaped and landed a thunderous body kick. Gamburyan dropped for a guillotine but Jorgensen quickly escaped. Gamburyan with a right hook. Step-in side elbow from Gamburyan. That was different. Gamburyan looked for a takedown without success. He kept working and eventually got Jorgensen down to his butt briefly. Jorgensen got up, then threw Manny to the mat. Gamburyan quickly reversed though. 10-9 Gamburyan.

Round 3 - Gamburyan with a left hook and a body kick. Leg kicks from both. Gamburyan back to the leg kick. Jorgensen with a sneaky right to the jaw. Body shot too. Gamburyan is slowing down a bit. Left hook from Jorgensen. And again. Gamburyan came up way short on a takedown attempt. Hard leg kick from Gamburyan. Straight right for Jorgensen. Hard left/right from Gamburyan bacaks Jorgensen up. He shot in again but got stuffed. He pinned Jorgensen against the fence and peppered him with lefts. Horgensen with a knee and two lefts. 10-9 Jorgensen, but 29-28 Gamburyan overall.

Manny Gambruyan defeated Scott Jorgensen by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Holly Holm vs. Marion Reneau

Round 1 - Both are whiffing on strikes early. Finally Reneau connects with a body kick 75 seconds in. Holm with some side kicks. Nice outside leg kick from Holm, and another side kick. This is the most kicks I've ever seen come up short in a single round ever. Holm with a leg kick. Reneau charges in with some strikes but nothing landed. Body kick for Reneau. Side kick for Holm. Holm may have glanced Reneau with a high kick. From kick from both of them. 10-9 Holm.

Round 2 - Oblique kick from Holm. Inside leg kick from Reneau. Holm with the head kick. Missed with a superman punch. Hard leg kick from Holm. They clinch, but separate quickly. They exchanged hard body kicks. Holm with a combo and body kick. Reneau with a body kick. Holm with a straight left. Two body kicks for Reneau, two harder ones from Holm. Holm caught a body kick but Reneau jumped guard. Holm dumped her off and kicked at her legs. 10-9 Holm.

Round 3 - Side kicks from Holm. Two oblique kicks. Reneau caught a kick and landed a body kick of her own. Holm with a nice step-in uppercut. Reneau with a jab, but Holm responded with a nice combo. Slapping leg kick from Holm. Holm with some pressure and Reneau went down, but she was just pushed. She ate a body kick on the way up. Two big leg kicks from Holm. She's taking over. Reneau with a front kick. Holm with a left hook and a kick. Reneau clinched and jumped guard again. She immediately went for a takedown when she was slammed to the mat but Holm easily backed out. Holm pressing now. Big kicks and tons of punches to the horn. 10-9 and 30-27 Holm.

Holly Holm defeated Marion Reneau by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 29-28)

Tony Ferguson vs. Josh Thomson

Round 1 - Ferguson with a body kick, Thomson returns it. Long feeling out process. Thomson caught a kick and dumped Ferguson on his back. He rolled through, but got taken down again. He popped up immediately though. Both men landed front kicks. Ferguson with an inside leg kick. Hard jab from El Cucuy staggered Thomson a bit. Another inside leg kick from Ferguson. Thomson connected with a straight right. Another hard inside leg kick from Ferguson. Kicks aplenty. Ferguson went for a flying knee but Thomson caught him and put him on the mat. Ferguson looked for a triangle. Thomson with an elbow. Despite the late takedown, I'll go 10-9 Ferguson.

Round 2 - Front kick from Thomson, and both men traded shots until Ferguson inexplicably decided to do a somersault. Ferguson landed a big elbow that hurt Thomson. He's down. More elbows. Ferguson all over him on the ground. He's looking for a crucifix. Ferguson was apparently grabbing the fence, so Herb Dean stood them up? That was odd. Even Thomson didn't get it. They both traded punches in the middle. Thomson caught a leg but couldn't get a takedown. A rough punch busted Thomson open, but he still got a takedown. Ferguson looked for a triangle. Elbows to the top of the head from Ferguson. Thomson is bleeding like crazy, all over Ferguson. Thomson popped out of the triangle. Ferguson looked for a shoulder lock, and used it to reverse position. Not sure how Thomson didn't tap there, that was nasty. Thomson showing some serious heart, popping up with a single and trading shots. Great round. 10-9 Ferguson.

Round 3 - Thomson caught a kick again but couldn't get a takedown. They traded a bevy of punches. Ferguson moving faster though. Ferguson throwing elbows to the head now. Thomson looks like he's cut in the hairline now, and blood is pouring down his face. More elbow. Thomson couldn't get a takedown. Ferguson doing some dancing and lands a leg kick. Hard body kick from Ferguson hurt Thomson again, but h e's still right there. Ferguson is walking Thomson down. He landed a knee that hurt Thomson again. But Thomson fired back with a spinning back fist. Thomson tied his opponent up against the cage. 10-9 and 30-27 Ferguson.

Tony Ferguson defeated Josh Thomson by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Todd Duffee vs. Frank Mir

Round 1 - Both men throwing right away. Mir with two nice lefts and Duffee is stunned. But he's right back and he hurt Mir with a left. They're just throwing bombs! Mir with a big knee. Duffee with a jab that hurts Mir! Mir fires back with the left and Duffee is out cold! That was a street fight and it was awesome!
