On Saturday night, UFC welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler became only the second man ever to stop Rory MacDonald. Coming into this fight, Lawler was looking to notch his first title defense since taking the title with a decision win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 181 in December

With Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald putting on a sublime display, fight fans were treated to one of the best bouts in recent MMA history.

Official result: Robbie Lawler defeated Rory MacDonald by TKO (strikes), 1:00 of round 5

What was the high point of the fight?

This fight was one of the greatest fights I have ever seen. For 4 rounds Rory MacDonald gave Robbie Lawler his all and Lawler kept coming forward. It's shocking to think how far Lawler has came over recent years as a fighter and this performance acted as a clear culmination of his hard work.

The high point of this fight was round 5. Robbie Lawler came out in the fifth and final round knowing he needed a finish and he managed the get one in devastating fashion.

Where do these two go from here?

Logic dictates that Robbie Lawler will fight Johny Hendricks next. This fight may not be what the fans want, but it is owed to Hendricks who fought Lawler valiantly to two tight decisions last year. If for some reason that fight doesn't come to fruition Tyron Woodley most likely will get the title shot.

To be the second best fighter in the world must be a bizarre existence. MacDonald is on another level compared to the rest of the division and he was within 4 minutes of winning the title last night before he got caught. MacDonald will need quite some time off to recover from those injuries but expect him to come right back into a number 1 contenders fight.

Watch now, later, or never?

Watch this one right now. This was Rory MacDonald and Robbie Lawler at their best.
