Both Matt Mitrione and Ben Rothwell came into their UFC Fight Night 68 co-main event heavyweight bout with a lot of confidence. Mitrione was looking to extend a streak of knockout wins, while Rothwell was trying to build on the biggest win of his career.
And in the end, it was Rothwell that stepped up.
After exchanging some heavy leather early, Mitrione shot in on Rothwell for a takedown. He almost got it, but Rothwell was able to stay up and managed to lock on what looked to be a variation of a guillotine choke. He leaned forward and changed the grip a bit, and Mitrione immediately tapped with both hands. It was over just like that. The finish came at 1:35 of the first round.
Rothwell (35-9) has now won three in a row. After the fight he cut a bizarre but humorous promo, saying he wanted a number one contender fight and that he was a superhero or something. He even ended it with the best evil laugh ever.
Hey, at least it was different.
