UFC Fight Night 68: Boetsch vs. Henderson live results and play-by-play for preliminary card

Bloody Elbow will provide live updates and analysis for the UFC Fight Night card from New Orleans, LA. The featured prelim bout will see Derrick Lewis facing off with Shawn Jordan.

UFC Fight Night 68 is set to go down in New Orleans, LA tonight with a middleweight slugfest on top. Former Pride and Strikeforce champion Dan Henderson tries to stay relevant in the UFC in a bout against fellow veteran Tim Boetsch.

We'll cover all the preliminary card action in this post. There will be two fights that air exclusively on UFC Fight Pass, which kick off at 7pm ET/4pm PT. Things will then switch over to Fox Sports 1 at 8pm ET/5pm PT for four more bouts.

UFC Fight Night 68 Main Card Play-by-Play

The featured preliminary card bout takes place in the heavyweight division, and isn't likely to go the distance with Derrick Lewis taking on Shawn Jordan. The rest of the card has surprisingly little local flavor, but is a decent mix of prospects and veterans.

Derrick Lewis vs. Shawn Jordan

Round 1 - Lewis with an immediate body kick. And two head kicks. A right and uppercut land for Lewis. Lewis clinches up against the cage. Jordan flips him over and gets the takedown. A bunch of short elbows against the cage for Jordan. Lewis gets back to his feet and they worked in the clinch. Knuckle chucking. Crazy spin kicks from Lewis. Jordan dove in for a takedown, but ate an elbow in the process. Short elbows from Jordan. Lewis up again. They stalled out in the clinch. Some knees to the legs from Jordan. Lewis pushed him across the cage and they both opened up with punches. Jordan got the best of it though. Lewis looked for a takedown. Another takedown from Jordan, right into side. More elbows. 10-9 Jordan.

Round 2 - Hard kick from Lewis. A hook kick dropped Lewis! Jordan mounted him and dropped bunches of punches. Lewis rolled to his back and ate more punches. After a sustained beating, the referee finally jumped in and stopped it. Lewis was badly hurt.

Omari Akhmedov vs. Brian Ebersole

Round 1 - Hard body kick from Akhmedov. Measured pace to start. Leg kick from Omari (it's easier to spell). Finally another body kick from Omari 90 seconds in. Head kick/knee from Ebersole. More leg kicks from Akhmedov. Body shot. The crowd is growing impatient. Ebersole briefly looked for a takedown. Bit of a nothing round. 10-9 Akhmedov.

Ebersole apparently suffered a right knee injury from one of the leg kicks early in round one, and it was enough for him to not be able to continue. The fight ended in between rounds.

Christos Giagos vs. Chris Wade

Round 1 - Giagos looked for a takedown immediately but couldn't get it. Nice combination from Wade. Absolutely beautiful duck under to get a brief takedown from Wade. Giagos rolled through and got back to his feet though. Body kick and takedown attempt from Giagos. Wade deftly defended though. Both men threw but it was Giagos that connected. Wade dropped to one knee but recovered immediately. Giagos scored with a flying knee. Wade hit a beautiful throw and moved to mount, but didn't stay there long. Giagos got back up. Head kick from Wade. Giagos with a right. Hard step-in elbow from Wade, and then kicked a leg right out from underneath Giagos. Giagos with a good body shot, but he's cut over the eye. Great round. 10-9 Wade.

Round 2 - Giagos with a nice combo. Body kick from Giagos. Leg kick from Wade. Left hook and body kick from Giagos. Wade responded with an uppercut out of the break. Nice jab from Giagos, and he sprawled to avoid a takedown. Giagos was controlling Wade's head, but he just powered his way into a reversal. After a bit of positional control, Giagos got himself on top in side control. Wade was looking for a guillotine but had no leverage against the cage. Wade with another beautiful transition. He wasn't throwing any punches though. He landed one knee to the head at Giagos got up. 10-9 Wade.

Round 3 - Jumping left hook from Giagos. Two more lefts. Nice knee to the body as Wade came in for a takedown. He still got it though. Wade was landing a few punches, just enough to keep the position. Elbow now. Giagos scrambled and got to his feet halfway through the round. Knee to the body and a left hook for Giagos. Wade looked flat-footed. Two winging rights for Giagos. He charged forward but got tied up. Takedown for Wade. Giagos got up relatively quickly but Wade kept a hold of him. Giagos was exhausted but still trying to throw strikes. Left scores for Giagos. Head kick from Wade got blocked. Giagos pressed forward and Wade tied him up, but Giagos scored with two knees to the body. Wade tied him up. I'd give that round to Giagos 10-9, but the fight went to Wade 29-28.

Justin Edwards vs. Joe Proctor

Round 1 - Leg kick for Proctor. And another. Edwards clinched up. Elbow over the top from Edwards as the separated. Stright right for Proctor. Big combo for Edwards coming across the cage. Emphatic takedown from Edwards but Proctor popped right up. He ate a knee on the way though. Elbow on the break again from Edwards. Looping right from Edwards, more kicks from Proctor. Uppercut/left hook combo from Proctor. More kicks. Slapping leg kick from Proctor. Spinning back kick from Edwards lands. Close, but I'll lean 10-9 Proctor.

Round 2 - Low kicks from both men. Edwards was walking Proctor down but not scoring with a ton. Three big knees to the head from Edwards after a look at a guillotine attempt. Jab from Proctor. Jumping switch kick from Proctor.Edwards closed the distance and beat Proctor a bit against the cage. Two counter lefts for Proctor, and Edwards got a brief takedown. Knees to the body as they split. Nice combo from Proctor.Counter right hook scores for Proctor. Hard straight right for Proctor. Hard jumping front kick from Edwards. Back and forth. Counter right from Proctor. Very close again, I'll lean Edwards 10-9 - slightly.

Round 3 -Leg kick and knee to the body for Proctor. Body shot and head kick from Proctor. Edwards clipped him with a right and looked for a takedown. He couldn't get it though. Jab from Proctor. Edwards was walking him down again but having trouble connecting with shots. More jabs from Proctor. Proctor catches Edwards as he tried to spin.Nice lead left for Proctor. Edwards looked for a takedown but a guilllotine attempt from Proctor scared him off. Nice elbow on the clinch exit from Edwards. Head kick for Proctor. Both men are slowing down a bit. Winging right scores for Edwards. Proctor landed a knee to the body that hurt Edwards and went for the guillotine. Edwards managed to fight it off for a while, or so it seemed. When Proctor leaned back off his knees, Edwards was completely unconscious! With two seconds to go! Wow. Nice work.

Ricardo Abreu vs. Jake Collier

Round 1 - Both men landed over the top in a brief clinch. Leg kick from Collier. Winging right hook and uppercut score for Abreu. Body kick connects for Collier. They clinched up against the cage briefly. They brawled a bit. Abreu lands a left in a flurry. A few kicks from Collier. Nice knee up the middle for Collier. Collier stuffed a takedown but ate a knee. Leg kick from Abreu. Combo from Collier. Body kick from Collier landed. A big right got Collier's attention. Collier looked for a takedown late but couldn't get it. Even round, but I'll lean 10-9 Collier.

Round 2 - Jumping knee from Collier but ate a right hook. Head kick scored for Collier. Front kick for Abreu. They exchanged body kicks. Collier with a few jabs. Abreu clinched up and landed a knee, but Collier escaped. Hard combination scored for Collier. Abreu responded with a head kick that was blocked. Combination and a takedown for Abreu. He didn't do much with the takedown though. I'd still go 10-9 Collier despite that.

Round 3 - Abreu with a right hook, Collier with a series of front kicks. Abreau landed with a winging right, followed it up with a combo, and got a takedown. Collier tried to scramle away but Abreu stayed on him. Collier did managed to get up. Abreu with four big punches in a row and a head kick. Collier pressed forward with a body kick and some punches. Jab from Collier. Another combo. Chopping lower leg kick from Collier. And another. Abreu with a tired shot that misses badly, but he immediately tried again and got Collier down briefly. Abreu was really tired with a minute to go, and Collier was chopping at his legs. Both get clipped with left hooks. Hard body kick and back to the calf kick for Collier. Both score with uppercuts. And they brawl down the stretch! Good fight. I'll go 10-9 Abreu but 29-28 Collier. All three rounds were close though.

Jake Collier defeats Ricardo Abreu by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Leonardo Morales vs. Jose Quinonez

Round 1 - Leg kicks from Morales. Morales fought off a takedown for a while but eventually Quinones got it about a minute in. He took his back and sunk the hooks. Morales tried to drop him on his face but Quinones quickly secured a choke. Morales escaped the first one but couldn't get out of the second, and was forced to tap out.

Jose Quinonez defeats Leonardo Morales by submission (rear naked choke), 2:34 of round one
