Shortly after Yoel Romero scored the biggest win of his career, he may have committed his biggest PR blunder. Shortly after knocking out Lyoto Machida, Romero took the mic and had a controversial rant seemingly about the recent developments on same-sex marriage in the United States.
"Wow. My friends, I want to say something. I'll try English. Hey UFC. Hey Miami. Hey Florida. Listen people, listen!" Romero said while wearing a John 3:16 headband. "What happened to you, USA? What happened to you? What's going on, you forget that the best in the best of the world, the name is Jesus Christ?"
"What happened to you?! Wake up USA! Go back. Go! Go for Jesus, no for gay Jesus!"
The Cuban wrestler obviously doesn't speak perfect english, but some media members are suggesting that his accent may be a possible reason for the confusion. They say Romero's line could really be meant as 'no forget Jesus' and not 'no for gay Jesus', but the accent excuse is hard to buy with him saying 'forget' properly and clearly just a few seconds earlier.
UPDATE: Yoel Romero has addressed these controversial statements saying it was just a 'misunderstanding', and that he simply wanted to thank the US for the 'American Dream'. Hmm.
