Tweet of the Day: Frankie Edgar 'disappointed' he wasn't picked as replacement for Jose Aldo

Yesterday, the UFC released a statement regarding the vulnerable UFC 189 main event between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor. Aldo is scheduled to defend his featherweight strap against Conor McGregor in a championship tilt on July 11, but reports surfaced on Tuesday detailing a rib injury the champ suffered in training which put the highly anticipated bout in serious jeopardy.

To the delight of fans and promoters, the UFC confirmed Aldo's injury was not as serious as initially suspected. Aldo has suffered a bruise to his rib and a cartilage injury, but the tough Brazilian has vowed soldier on to face his Irish nemesis for UFC 189. If, however, 'Scarface' does pull out of the bout, #1 ranked featherweight stud Chad Mendes will step in as his replacement and will battle with Conor McGregor for the interim 145 lbs. championship.

Former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar isn't too happy. 'The Answer' was 'staring at his phone' in anticipation of an invitation to Las Vegas as Jose Aldo's replacement, but the UFC never made the call. Edgar returned to Twitter earlier today to express his disappointment in the UFC's decision:

Frankie Edgar last fought Jose Aldo in a competitive five round clash at UFC 156 which saw the reigning champ take home a unanimous decision. Since losing to Aldo, the determined wrestle-boxer has won four straight and is dogged in his pursuit of featherweight gold.
