An entertaining night of fights in Berlin culminated with a strawwight title fight between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Jessica Penne. While many expected an early finish for the champion, Penne showed remarkable heart and survived until the third round when the referee stepped in to mercifully bring the fight to an end. Apart from that, several other fighters shone through and were awarded generously for their efforts.
In a striking clinic on Saturday, Mairbek Taisumov produced his best showing in the Octagon to date on Saturday afternoon in Berlin when he defeated Alan Patrick via second round TKO following a head kick. He showed exactly how to counter attack a fighter who is wildly looking to secure a knockout win and eventually turned the tide in his favour once he found the necessary opening. The Chechen moved to 4-1 in the UFC.
Making a short notice debut in the Octagon, Arnold Allen was likely down 18-20 heading into the third round of the fight against Alan Omer. However, he managed to turn things around and secured a late guillotine choke to earn the upset victory and a promising start to his UFC tenure.
The main event of the evening was awarded ‘Fight of the Night' honours, as Jedrzejczyk returned to the Octagon for her first title defense against Jessica Penne, which turned into a brutal, one-sided beatdown over the course of three rounds. Once Joanna zapped Penne's confidence after stuffing numerous takedowns, she unloaded an onslaught of vicious strikes from her arsenal to turn Penne's face into pulp.
