Life for MMA fighters outside the UFC just isn't very glamorous. Case in point, former Zuffa fighter Bubba McDaniel, who recently spent a day in jail, because it made more financial sense than paying a $159 ticket for not wearing a seatbelt. McDaniel posted on Facebook that he's been struggling to find fights lately and was driving between landscaping jobs when he got pulled over. It sounds like the market for former UFC talent on the US regional scene just isn't very good.
Here's McDaniel's full statement, originally posted on Reddit:
Bloody Elbow reached out to McDaniel to get a further statement about his decision to take jail time over paying the ticket. Saying the decision made sense for him: "Yeah I keep telling people that too. They think it's just crazy to volunteer to go to jail."
"I got 100 credit for 24 hours... then they said we are overcrowded and kicked me out early and just gave me 200 for 24 hours... no biggie. In and out BUT. Jail food stopped me up real bad. Lol"
McDaniel has fought twice for Bellator since leaving the UFC, going 1-1. His last bout was a win over Marvin Babe at Fists of Fury 8: Genesis back in March.
