It's never a good sign when the "highlight" of an otherwise horrendously bad fight is an uncomfortable illegal strike, but that was the case for Saturday's UFC Fight Night showdown between light heavyweights Ryan Jimmo and Francimar Barroso. Early in the 2nd round, Barroso cracked Jimmo with a kick straight to the family jewels that put Jimmo down in immense pain. In case you missed it, video of the strike can be seen at the top of the page.
Jimmo was given 5 minutes to recover from such a gruesome shot, and was doubled over to the point where doctors had to bring a bucket out as he heaved into it. To referee Kevin McDonald's credit, he never rushed Jimmo to recover and gave him the full 5 minutes. It looked like the fight would be stopped (and presumably end in a no contest), but Jimmo fought on until the final horn sounded. No point deduction was issued against Barroso.
To add insult to injury, Jimmo lost by unanimous decision to Barroso in a moderate upset, leaving his UFC future in some serious jeopardy.
