With Mayweather vs. Pacquiao out of the way, boxing turns its attention to a fairly big match-up on Houston, Texas. Mexico's Saul Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) aims to keep his winning ways going against James Kirkland (32-1, 28 KOs) in a junior middleweight (154 lbs) bout. The co-main event pits 23-year-old Frankie Gomez (18-0, 13 KOs) against veteran and former three-division world champion Humberto Soto (65-8-2, 35 KOs) in a true test for the LA native of Mexican descent.
It is expected that at least 35,000 pack Minute Maid Park, home of baseball's Houston Astros, to watch this Mexico-centric card running on a Cinco de Mayo weekend theme. The good news for fight fans is that this card won't be airing on PPV, but instead on HBO on Saturday night at 9 PM ET/PT. Keep in mind that the broadcast will begin with a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao replay.
The live stream of the Canelo vs. Kirkland weigh-ins can be viewed right here on Bloody Elbow at 4 PM ET/1 PM PT on Friday, May 8th. Just click the play button at the top of the page.
