Yesterday, Combate ran an interview with UFC 190 women's bantamweight title challenger Bethe Correia where she made a comment about hoping that champion Ronda Rousey doesn't commit suicide after she beats her for the title. Rousey, who has had to deal with her father committing suicide when she was just eight years old, responded tersely to the statement.
Now, Correia has apologized.
Credit to Correia for quickly apologizing, but the statement should never have been made in the first place, regardless of Rousey's personal experience with it. As Ronda said, some things just shouldn't be used as tools for promotion.
Nevertheless, this will ramp up the emotion for both fighters going into their August 1st bout in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
