Daniel Cormier: 'I hope Jon Jones was watching when I took the belt'

Daniel Cormier antagonizes Jon Jones on The MMA Hour.

After emerging as the new light-heavyweight champion on Saturday night at UFC 187, an animated Daniel Cormier took to the microphone to call out former divisional kingpin, Jon Jones. "Jon Jones, get your s**t together. I'm waiting for you," DC yelled down the mic after defeating Anthony Johnson. The former Olympian didn't stop there, he also sounded off on the former champ yesterday on The MMA Hour:

"I hope he was (watching). Can you imagine him sitting there watching me, of all people, get the belt? If the roles were reversed, I would be going insane if I had to watch him do that, if I were in his situation. He doesn't want to see me win, he doesn't want to see me carry what he probably feels is still his title — which it isn't, it's mine. He doesn't want to see that. But I don't know, maybe Jon is in so much of a better place now after going through the issues that he has, that he's probably let everything go. But we will see, I guess," Cormier said.

Shortly after the announcement of Jon Jones' hit-and-run incident in April, the UFC announced their decision to strip 'Bones' of the 205 lbs. title and suspend him indefinitely. When (or if) Jones returns to the Octagon, he will be granted with an immediate title shot. It's expected that Jones' legal issues will sideline him from MMA competition for a reasonable stretch, leaving the door open for other promotional contenders. It's presumed that Cormier's first title defense will be against Ryan Bader, as the two combatants have sniped at each other ever since news broke out of Jones's suspension.
