The UFC 187 fight card proved to be one of the best events the promotion has produced in recent memory and that certainly came down to the incredible showings, entertaining showdowns, as well as two enthralling championship fights that were featured atop the card.
While the preliminary card did not feature the most memorable of fights, the main card boasted a slew of enthralling showcases that led to many of the bonuses that were handed out in the event's aftermath.
The main event of the evening saw Daniel Cormier take ahold of his second opportunity to claim championship gold and cease the moment. After being rocked early on against Anthony Johnson, Cormier was able to recuperate and adjust his strategy so that he could impose his will on his opponent. He reverted to his grappling acumen and wore Johnson down until he was able to lock in the submission in the third round of the fight.
The co-main event saw Chris Weidman defend his title against a third Brazilian former UFC champion and come out successful in dominant fashion. This time, he overcame some adversity to topple Vitor Belfrot in the opening round of their long awaited contest. It was an entertaining fight and helped polish Weidman's growing resume.
Fight of the Night honours were unquestionably handed out to the contest that produced the most sensational round of the year to date. The round took place in the heavyweight feature fight between Andrei Arlovski and Travis Browne, which saw a back-and-forth affair with significant momentum shifts before Arlovski was able to capitalize with 19 seconds remaining in the bout.
