Miesha Tate wants to fight at 125, but would fight Cyborg at 140, because 'that's my job'

New, comments

Tate gave fans the chance to ask their most pressing "Cupcake" related questions at the pre-UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs. Faber Q&A session and she had some interesting stuff to say about Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. With all the talk about a potential bout between Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg, and the ongoing insistence from the Rousey camp that it won't happen anywhere other than 135 lbs, it just makes sense that a few other women in the division might be willing to take up the challenge of a catchweight fight. Of course the first woman in line to take a little shine off the current bantamweight queen would be Miesha Tate.

She's made it clear for a while that there's no love lost between herself and Rousey, telling fans at the UFC's Manila Q&A session that on a scale of 1 to 10, she hates Rousey somewhere around 11. Essentially, Miesha Tate is the Spinal Tap of the bantamweight division.

In reference to where she stands on taking a potential catchweight fight with Cris Cyborg, if such a thing were offered, Tate made it clear that while she'd like to be fighting at 125 ideally, she would definitely fight Cyborg at 140. (transcription via MMAMania)

"That's my job. I have to fight anyone they put in front of me and obviously I'm not scared of anyone. So yes, I would (fight her at catchweight). But I heard Cyborg is signed to fight at 135, so I would prefer to fight her in my weight class. If they had a 125, I'd like to go down, but they don't, so it's 135 for me."

Obviously there's not as much on the line for Tate in that potential matchup (just her health), but I wouldn't be surprised, now that Cyborg is officially under Zuffa contract, if a few other women didn't start offering to take the fight that the champion won't.

Miesha Tate is scheduled to take on Jessica Eye at UFC on Fox 16 this July 25th in Chicago, Illinois. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
