*In ESPN 30 for 30 narrator voice* What if I told you that a man who lost $18,000 betting on Brett Rogers to beat Alistair Overeem created a priceless Bloody Elbow meme to last a lifetime?
"Lets mutherfukers!" has been a staple of Bloody Elbow culture for nearly five full years. The battle cry has even been mimed on live television by none other than Ben Saunders. But present day BE readers may not know exactly where this infamous term came from. That's why I'm here to explain how it all started, because I'm a world-renowned historian on the history of Bloody Elbow.
May 15th, 2010 - Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery
Alistair Overeem fought Brett Rogers in the main event of Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery in St. Louis. While Rogers may be lampooned now, he was considered a legitimate threat in the heavyweight division after he crushed Andrei Arlovski. Fedor Emelianenko ended Rogers' undefeated record by planting his head into the 17th row in Chicago, which Gus Johnson may or may not have hailed as the greatest upset in the history of MMA. At the time of the fight, Overeem was a -240 favorite with Rogers available at +190.
In comes BE commenter "mmalogic", a popular and perhaps controversial figure over the years due to his anonymity and rumored ties to Zuffa. He frequently called Strikeforce "Shitfarce" and generally kept up a pro-Zuffa stance in all of his comments, especially when it came down to the business aspect of the sport. While he makes sporadic appearances on this site, he's largely taken his talents to The UG.
Whatever the old heads may think of him, you cannot deny that he created one of the finest moments in the history of online MMA discussion. In the comments section of the live thread of Overeem vs. Rogers, mmalogic drunkenly typed in the announcement that he's smacked down $18,000 on Rogers to beat Overeem, to which he exclaimed "Lets mutherfukers".

Of course, Overeem comfortably beat Rogers, which resulted in this reaction.

Not to be discouraged, mmalogic DID completely ace this prediction, but we don't know if he ever put money down on Fedor never fighting Overeem. I'm also glad I never slapped down $18,000 because I'd have had a serious gambling debt on my hands.

Some memes grow old, tiresome, and wear out their welcome. Lets mutherfukers will be passed down to generations of Bloody Elbow members who are hopefully now fully educated on how a disastrous $18,000 bet and one too many stiff drinks led to this unforgettable moment in Bloody Elbow history.
If you have nothing better to do with your day, here's the full live thread for your viewing pleasure.
