Bellator MMA's top-featherweight contender Georgi Karakhanyan reportedly suffered a torn ACL and is out of his Bellator 138 featherweight title fight against champion Patricio Freire. Karakhanyan will be replaced by German number-one ranked featherweight Daniel Weichel, who earned his shot at the belt by winning Bellator's last 145-pound tournament last year and recently beating Pat Curran at Bellator 133 in February.

"I've known that the fight is on for three days now, but somehow I had the feeling before, I sensed it, that I will fight for the title this summer," Weichel told German outlet GNP1.de. "My next fight would have been a title fight anyway. Now it will be in July, that's the perfect point of time, I'm a 100 percent ready. I never had a break after my last fight and continued to train. I feel in perfect shape, I am extremely excited for the fight and can't wait to be the first German Bellator champion."

Patricio Freire defeated Pat Curran and won the belt at Bellator 123 last September and later defended it against Daniel Straus in January. Karakhanyan is a former WSOF champion and made his successful Bellator debut in January. There is no information on when he will be able to return. Also, the Freire-Weichel title fight is yet to be announced by Bellator.

Bellator 138 will take place June 19 in St. Louis, MO and will be headlined by Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock.
